Top 10 movies of the year 2019.

2019 was an interesting year for cinema. This year hundreds of movies released. Some movies were a tremendous hit because of their unique subject. Others were just average and didn’t do so well.  Lots of good movies came with a variety of genres like “Pain and Glory”, “The Farewell”, “The Lighthouse” and “Booksmart”. But these movies are not included in my list. My personal favorite movies of 2019 are listed below.

10. ROCKETMAN (May 31, 2019)

“Rocketman” is an epic biographical musical film. The film is written by Lee Hall and directed by Dexter Fletcher . The film specifically focuses on the initial days of the musician’s life. Moreover, the story follows Reginald Dwight as a shy piano prodigy; who then he became an international superstar named Elton John. Aaron Egerton played the character of Elton John. The movie also stars Richard Madden as John Reid, Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin and Bryce Dallas Howard as Sheila Dwight. In addition, the name of the movie is titled after his 1972 song “Rocket Man”.

9. KNIVES OUT (November 27, 2019)

An American murder mystery film. The film was directed and produced by Rian Johnson. “Knives Out” particularly follow the mysterious death of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) after his 85th birthday. The story then continues with Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) investigating the case. Even so, the Detective suspects every member of the wildly dysfunctional family of Thrombey. The cast also includes Chris Evans, Anna de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson and Katherine Langford. The film Knives Out is inspired by an English writer, Agatha Christie.

8. ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD (July 26, 2019)

Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” is a comedy-drama film. Above all, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. The story sets back in Los Angeles in 1969. As well as follows two main characters named Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth. Rick; a former actor and Cliff; his stunt double. Both are struggling for work. Therefore, wants to regain fame and success in Hollywood. Also, multiple storylines in the film pay tribute to the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

7. JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3-PARABELLUM (May 17, 2019)

The third installment of “John Wick” series is also an American action-drama thriller movie. Directed by Chad Stahelski. The story revolves around a character named John Wick (Keanu Reeves). Though, there is a whopping $14 million price tag on his head after he killed a member of the international assassins’ guild, the High Table. But, he is on the run because he still is a target of hit men and women everywhere. The cast also includes Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry and Mark Dacascos. 

6. AVENGERS: ENDGAME (April 26, 2019)

It is an American superhero movie. Based on Marvel Comics. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The movie features Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Hemsworth and Paul Rudd. Earlier, in “Avengers: Infinity War” Thanos caused a lot of damage to the universe and the Avengers too. So, in “Avengers: End Game”, the remaining members of the Avengers gather once again to reverse Thanos actions and to reestablish harmony to the universe. 

5. MARRIAGE STORY (November 6, 2019)

Director and producer Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” is a drama film. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Ray Liotta and Alan Alda. The story focuses on the life of a married couple struggling with their marriage. Finally, Charlie Barber who is a successful stage director and his star wife Nicole decides for a coast-to-coast divorce. As a result, the divorce pushes them to their extreme limits and help them become successful. 

4. PARASITE (October 11, 2019)

A South Korean dark-comedy drama film. The “Parasite” is directed by Bong Joon Hoo. The story revolves around two families. The wealthy Park Family and the poor, uneducated Kim Family. The Kim takes an unusual interest in Park’s. They got a golden chance when the Park’s hired Kim children as an English tutor and art therapist. But soon they get trapped in an unexpected situation. The cast features Song Kang Ho, Lee Sun Kyun, Choi Woo-silk and Yeo-Jeong Jo. 

3. LITTLE WOMEN (DECEMBER 25, 2019)

“Little Women” is adapted from the classic novel of 1868 of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. Written and directed by Greta Gerwig. Altogether, the film stars Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, Emma Watson as Meg March, Florence Pugh as Amy March, Eliza Scanlen as Beth March, Laura Dern as Marmee, Meryl Streep as Aunt March and Timothée Chalamet as their neighbour Laurie. In the film, Jo March, an author,  reflects back and forth on her life. Also, telling the story of the beloved March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on their own terms. 

2. THE IRISHMAN (NOVEMBER 1, 2019)

Martin Scorsese’s crime-mystery film “Irishman” is based on a non-fiction book named “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt. The film follows an elderly World War I I veteran Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro)  who recalls his past. As once he was a truck driver. But, later on, became a hitman for the Bufalino Family. Then, he recalls his time working with Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and also his involvement in his friend Jimmy’s disappearance. 

1. Joker (October 4, 2019)

“Joker” is a psychological thriller drama movie based on DC Comics. Directed by Todd Phillips. Certainly, centres around a character named Arthur Fleck. A failed comedian struggling to find his way in the Gotham city. But, dismissed and abused by society. Trapped in insanity and cruelty he later discovers his talent is not for comedy but for violence. The cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy.
